The City of Richmond has applied to the federal government to help fund new projects at the Olympic oval and Britannia Heritage Shipyard.

City councils parks and recreation committee this week endorsed five projects for submission to the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The city requested funding for the Richmond Olympic Experience project; the Japanese Benevolent Society Building rehabilitation and restoration; the Britannia Heritage Shipyard Seine Net Loft rehabilitation and adaptive reuse to exhibit and open storage; the Gateway Theatre Energy Retrofit project and a wireless access upgrade to library and adjacent city facilities.

Project funding maxes out at $1 million per project, but applicants seeking less than $250,000 receive priority, according to the report to committee.

The Olympic experience is the only funding request for $1 million (total project cost is $2.075 million). The project involves improving existing infrastructure at the Richmond Olympic Oval in order to install a destination attraction and museum.
