A former Vancouver Canucks goaltender-turned painter will be in town this weekend for the Steveston-based Wigs for Kids BC fundraiser.
"King" Richard Brodeur and local businesses are teaming up to raise funds for the nonprofit that helps kids battling cancer and other serious illnesses.
Brodeur will be creating art live on-site at The Steveston Seafood House on Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Aug. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. while the restaurant serves up lunch and brunch.
Guests can watch Brodeur at work, purchase his paintings and meet the hockey legend in person.
Wigs for Kids BC is a volunteer-run program that provides custom-fitted wigs and financial assistance to children in B.C.
The charity, which started in 2006 as an organization donating wigs to kids, has since expanded its scope to providing supplies not covered by the MSP.
Throughout August, Sinfully The Best is selling special Wigs for Kids BC cookies and A Monkey Tree is raffling off a curated gift basket, both with proceeds benefiting the cause.
From Aug. 18 to 31, an online silent auction is also taking place, with all the money raised going directly to the Wigs for Kids program.
Items for the auction include gift certificates to restaurants like Hy's Steakhouse, Hawksworth, Pan Pacific Vancouver and Gordon Ramsay Steakhouse, as well as golf courses, custom cake orders and a one-night stay in various Vancouver hotels.
