A small camper van exploded into flames at a gas station, causing commuter chaos during Wednesday afternoons rush hour.

Witnesses reported and explosion and then flames licking eight to ten feet in the air after the fire started in the van while it sat at the gas pump at Super Save on Westminster Highway at No. 5 Road around 4 p.m.

Richmond Fire-Rescue was on the scene quickly to douse the van, which was partly engulfed in fire, which was also precariously close to a propane gas storage tank.

Its not clear how the fire started and there were no reported injuries.

Parts of Westminster Highway and No. 5 Road were closed during rush hour for safety and to allow emergency services to deal with the fire.
