Bail hearing set in stabbing death case

The 35-year-old Richmond woman accused in the stabbing death of her 38-year-old husband is set to have a bail hearing by video on Thursday, Sept. 6 in Richmond Provincial Court.

Pui Chun "Winnie" Poon appeared in court briefly on Thursday to set a bail hearing.

With a Cantonese interpreter standing by her, Poon smiled and appeared relaxed during a brief chat with her lawyer David Baker.

Poon is facing seconddegree murder charges in the death of her husband in the early hours of Tuesday, Aug. 14.

The police were called to their home in Lansdowne Square, in the 8700-block of Ackroyd Road around 1 a.m.

The Mounties found the 38-year-old man who was suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Crown counsel in the case is Gerri-Lyn Nelson. Poon remains in custody pending her bail hearing.
