FRIDAY
The Music at the Cannery Summer Series presents rockabilly's Tommy Alto on Friday, Aug. 24 at 6: 30 p.m., at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, 12138 4th Ave. in Steveston Village. Rain or shine, the show goes on. Open air shows, so bring a sweater, it can get chilly.
The Emerging Artists Committee organizes events and activities to increase young adults' (ages 18-30) involvement in the Richmond Art Gallery. The committee meets regularly to discuss and plan opportunities at the Richmond Art Gallery for young artists working in the areas of visual arts, music, performance and new media. Closing Night transforms the gallery into an accessible and sociable space for young emerging artists and students by introducing new elements such as theatre, poetry, music, or performance to the current exhibition. Closing Night: Haiku Poetry Slam happens on Friday, on Aug. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitors also have a chance to read out their own Haiku. Food and coffee is available. Door prize adds a pleasant surprise at the end of the event.
