Richmond food scene gets 2 new hotpot spots and a Korean joint

A Chinese chain restaurant is also moving into a massive space just down the block from its current location in Capstan Village.

There's never a dull moment in Richmond's food scene and the Richmond News recently spotted three more new additions and an expansion-in-progress for an existing joint in Richmond city centre.

Round Pot Chicken Hot-Pot

This new hotpot restaurant, specializing in chicken and fish maw hotpot, opened in the food district on Alexandra Road last month.

Nestled between fine-dining restaurant Little Karp and Korean fried chicken joint BBQ Chicken Lemon, Round Pot took over a spot previously occupied by a restaurant specializing in food from China's Xi An region.

The hotpot restaurant has done away with the usual self-serve condiment stations and instead serves sets of condiments to diners, who can then create their own mixes at the table.

Round Pot is open from 11 a.m. to midnight every day and offers happy hour with 20 per cent off between 2 to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 p.m. to midnight Monday to Thursday.

Address: #120-8631 Alexandra Rd.

Big Way Hot Pot

The popular self-serve hotpot joint will be opening a second Richmond location near PriceSmart Foods on Ackroyd Road in the upcoming months.

Richmond News recently spotted Big Way Hot Pot's upcoming storefront, which will take over spots previously occupied by a medical clinic and a travel agency.

The personalized hotpot restaurant offers up to 100 ingredients including meat, seafood and vegetables and made its debut in Richmond earlier this summer.

The hotpot restaurant started with two locations in Burnaby and has since expanded to No. 3 Road in Richmond and Robson Street in Vancouver.

The opening date for the Ackroyd location, and another one coming to Kerrisdale, has not been confirmed.

Address: 8100 Ackroyd Rd.

Elysium Korean Bistro & Restaurant

A Korean restaurant that opened just one year ago has closed down, but it's being replaced by another Korean restaurant.

Elysium Korean Bistro & Restaurant will be taking over Hanpan Korean Restaurant's spot on Alexandra Road, also known as Richmond's unofficial food district. Hanpan kept the decor of its predecessor, Hanok Korean Restaurant, which closed down last year.

The News spotted contractors changing the signs for the storefront yesterday, but there is no confirmed opening date yet.

Address: #100-8400 Alexandra Rd.

Geng Shi Ji

Richmondites who frequent Union Square Shopping Centre in Capstan Village are probably familiar with Geng Shi Ji, a Chinese chain restaurant specializing in Hunan cuisine.

The restaurant appears to be gearing up to move into a much bigger location, as the News spotted its new sign outside a massive space just down the block in Continental Shopping Centre.

The new location, currently under renovation, was previously occupied by 0755 Restaurant and Lounge, a restaurant that specialized in Chinese cuisine with nostalgic decor.

Address: 3779 Sexsmith Rd.
