An award-winning comedy team is hosting a Valentine’s Day show at a Richmond Brewery on Feb. 14.

The Comedy Department is putting on a show titled My Funny Valentine at Monkey 9 Brewing Co. to celebrate and to “just make fun of all things” romance this Tuesday evening.

Denise Jones, the co-founder of The Comedy Department, said Richmond has been a city they’ve been looking at having a show in for a while and believe Richmond is the best place to host their first Valentine’s Day improv.

“It’s a city that we are looking forward to performing in because of its huge community involvement,” said Jones.

The show will be a live improv comedy where there will be no scripts and solely rely on audience members to make suggestions that will “feed” the show.

Jones and her fellow teammates will touch on topics of first dates, bad dates, first kisses, hookups and weird pick-up lines during the show.

Jones, who has been in improv for 25 years, said Valentine’s Day is not just about those who have successful relationships but also to support those who are single and seeking.

“The power of laughter and in a shared experience with other people laughing is wonderful … and Valentine’s Day can be a night (to) just enjoy with friends and family too.”

The show will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 14 and tickets are $20 per person on Eventbrite.

Meanwhile, Monkey 9 is also offering a three-course dinner for two people for $49 on top of the show tickets
