Two pianists, including a Richmond High student, are set to perform a two-piano recital in Richmond Friday evening.

Sarah Ortega and Wen Wang will perform pieces by composers Schumann, Arensky, Debussy, Guion and Rachmaninov at Tom Lee Music Richmond. Both hold performance diplomas, medals and scholarships.

Ortega, who began lessons when she was four-years-old, received a medal and scholarship from the Richmond branch of the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association as a result of her high marks when she was 13.

Ortega is now entering grade 11 at Richmond Secondary School and is very involved with the music department including playing for the vocal jazz choir and for the concert band. She has also performed at Gateway Theatre as a piano soloist and accompanist, and in concert band and vocal jazz performances.

Wang, who has graduated from UBC, also received a scholarship from the Richmond branch of the RMT for his achievements and has received a national gold medal.

Ortega and Wang formed a duo in 2017 and perform a variety of two-piano music.
