Richmond Art Gallery is hosting a workshop tonight led by Vancouver artist Ho Tam from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss the practice of self-publishing as a means of sharing one’s art with new audiences.

The workshop will be a chance to network with emerging and established artists and learn about Tam’s experiences in self-production and distribution.

“I will talk about how I work in visual arts, gallery exhibitions and the practice of self-publication,” said Tam.

He has worked within a variety of professions such as advertising, print media, photography and even experimental and documentary film making.

Tam was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Toronto and now resides in Vancouver.

His self-published press, hotam press, represents a collection of Tam’s artist’s bookwork and prints, including his most recent release - Hotam #1: A Brief History of Me.

“It is a visual timeline of my own life accompanied by pictures of world events,” explained Tam.

“I see it as a new form of artist’s book, using the technology of digital printing to construe a story, while experimenting with the magazine format.”

The workshop is intended for artists or anyone who is interested in sales publishing and artist’s books collection.
