Experience a journey through old world beauty, brutality, love, betrayal and death in Opera Opulenza’s Cavalleria Rusticana on Wednesday, June 1.
This concert marks the last of three events in the Minoru Chapel Opera Spring 2016 season.
Composer Pietro Mascagni was just 27 when he wrote the opera in 1889 over an eight-day period. The work broke new ground and ushered in the era of verismo.
The story takes place on Easter morning in a Sicilian village where Santuzza is looking for her lover, Turridu, who betrayed her with his former fiancée, Lola, now married to the wealthy Alfio.
Angered and feeling betrayed, Santuzza tells the cuckolded husband about the affair, which leads to a duel between Turridu and Alfio.
The Minoru Chapel Opera series is performed at 6540 Gilbert Rd. (beside Gateway Theatre).

Opera Opulenza was founded in 2014 by artistic director Trudy Chalmers.
Since then, performances have spanned the worlds of chanson, opera, lieder and sacred music.
The company inspires and educates the community — singers, musicians and audiences — with both classic and lesser-known works.
