Minoru Chapel Opera is poised to blossom with the 2013 spring season, featuring three special concerts to entice musical aficionados in March, April and May.

Minoru Chapel Opera is poised to blossom with the 2013 spring season, featuring three special concerts to entice musical aficionados in March, April and May.

The series opens on Wednesday, March 6 with Burnaby Lyric Opera performing highlights from Verdis Rigoletto.

This opera follows the story of the lustful Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigolettos beautiful daughter Gilda, in a story of deception and seduction.

On Wednesday, April 3, Vancouver Opera will present An Opera Tea, featuring work by Mozart, Donizetti, Strauss and Gounod. There will also be a sneak preview of music from their upcoming mainstage production of Tan Duns Tea: A Mirror of the Soul.

The following month, on May 1, Opera di Concertisti will present selections from Donizettis comic opera, La Fille du Régiment (The Daughter of the Regiment).

Events are at Minoru Chapel, 6540 Gilbert Rd. at 2 and 7 p.m. Seating is limited and tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 604-276-4300. Admission is $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors. For more information, visit www.richmond.ca/minoruchapel.
