The Richmond Public Library was the place to be this summer. If your child was age seven to 12, they had the chance to get along to the Brighouse branch for drop-in Reading Buddies. The program ran each Thursday from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. with children paired with a teen “big buddy” who helped them practise their reading skills. Here are the last book reviews:
Title: Bayberry Island
Author: Henry Cole
Reviewed by: Richard, age 8
This book is about true friendship between Twig a chipmunk, Lilly a bunny and Basil a weasel. They set sail on a boat with a baby dragon named Chair, but the boat capsized in the middle of the sea. I like this book because the animals are very cute and they represent friendship and kindness. It tells you to never lie to your friends because if you lie like Basil, you will lose your friends and break your friendship between them. I recommend you to read this book because the relationship in this animal story are similar to our human world and it can be a real life situation.
I give this book five stars.
Title: Patient Zero
Author: Marilee Peters

This book is about huge epidemics that happened and the “epidemic detectives” that found out where the outbreaks originated and how they were transmitted, mostly putting their own lives at risk. I like this book because it explains the stories of the different epidemics and detectives in an informative and vivid way. The stories are full of facts and are narrated in a way that makes you want to keep reading. The book is a reasonable length and has pages with information and with nonfiction stories, so you have a good balance of entertainment and knowledge. It also has an amazing introduction and conclusion.
I give this book four stars.
Title: Captain Underparns and the Terrifying Return of Tippy Tinkletrousers
Author: Dav Pilkey
Reviewed by: Brendan, age 10
This book is about a guy named Tippy Tinkletrousers returning. He wants his revenge on Captain Underpants because he stopped him from taking over the world. At the end of the fight in the book Tippy Tinkletrousers traveled back in time five years ago before that night.
I like this book because it talks about two parts. It talks about George and Harold going to jail and also Captain Underpants fighting Tippy Tinkletrousers. After, when Tippy traveled back in time, it talks about how George and Harold met and how they beat the four bullies who always stole their money.
I give this book five stars.
