How does today's technologically depen dent youth communicate?

The Richmond Youth Dance Company explores the subject at the Richmond Cultural Centre with two shows of Omilia March 8 and 9.

Omilia is an ancient Greek word for conversation in all its forms and Miyouki Jego choreographs an interpretation of youth culture's human emotions in this context through a mix of contemporary and ballet dance style.

Twenty-one of Richmond's talented young dancers will deliver this special performance which gives the aspiring dancers opportunities to display their talent and creativity. All of the dancers in the company had to audition for this production.

As part of the City of Richmond's ongoing efforts to provide positive outlets for youth engagement as well as promoting arts events as an integral part of a healthy community, the Richmond Youth Dance Company was established through the Richmond Arts Centre in 2010.

This year's performances will be accompanied by live music courtesy of featured guests, the Delta Youth Orchestra.

The performances take place on March 8 at 7 p.m. and March 9 at 6 p.m. at the Richmond Cultural Centre-7700 Minoru Gate. Tickets are $7 and are available in advance at the Cultural Centre or by calling 604-247-8300 or on the night of the performance.
