The annual City of Richmond Street Banner Contest has officially kicked off and the city is now accepting entries.
For the 25th year in a row, artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to share their vision through a range of artistic mediums.
Contest submissions should reflect one of the following six themes:
• Parks and Nature
• Active Living
• Community Pride
• City Centre
• Transportation
• Arts, Culture and Heritage
Submissions (Richmond.ca/Banners) will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.
Up to 10 winning designs will be chosen this fall and the designs will be turned into 1,000 street banners.
The banners will be installed throughout Richmond’s downtown core, on walking paths and on main gateways leading in and out of the city. The banners will be displayed for one year beginning in February 2018.
New this year, a community volunteer judging panel will select up to 20 designs as semi-finalists and the final judging will come down to a public vote.
All semi-finalist designs will be posted on the city’s Facebook page and website for public voting and the community will be invited to “like” their favourite design.
The city will grant final approval.
Chosen winners will be given a $300 prize.
