Dec. 9 & 16:

Songs in the Snow: A Vintage Christmas:
Steveston Town Square Park, 3811 Moncton St: 4 to 6 p.m.: Songs in the Snow is a winter community concert series. The community is invited to enjoy vintage themed activities, crafts, and entertainment. For all ages, enjoy refreshments while listening to seasonal music provided by local school and community choirs groups. Presented by the Steveston Historical Society, together with the Richmond Arts Coalition and the City of Richmond. Website: HistoricSteveston.ca.

Dec. 7 to 24 (except Mondays):

Gateway Theatre presents: A Christmas Carol:
Gateway Theatre, 6500 Gilbert Rd: Ebenezer Scrooge is a greedy miser who despises Christmas. One Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of a deceased business partner and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Scrooge is given the opportunity to reflect upon his life, examine his heart, and be transformed by the spirit of the season. Like all of our holiday shows of the past, A Christmas Carol will be a fun-filled spectacle with live music for the whole family to enjoy together. Website: GatewayTheatre.com/aChristmasCarol.

ROCA presents: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas: Gilmore Park United Church, 8060 Number 1 Rd: Dec 9: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Dec 10: 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Richmond Chorus looks forward to sharing some of our favourite seasonal music, both sacred and secular, with our Christmas audiences. Traditions become established for a reason — they make us feel good! Come and join us in the carols and Christmas readings we love — both performance and participatory fun! Website: ROCA.ca.

BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association (Richmond Branch) Aberdeen Centre Recital:Aberdeen Centre, Central Atrium, 4151 Hazelbridge Way: 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:
The Richmond Branch of the BCRMTA presents its annual Aberdeen Centre Recital. A variety of audience-pleasing selections will be performed by students. Admission is free. Website: BCRMTA.com.

Cambie Library – Dream Room:

10 to 11 a.m.: Fun and silly storytelling for children. Along with Not Your Typical Dragon, this storytelling presentation offers a line-up of only humorous tales, which include funny picture books, Nine Words Max, A Fish Named Glub, and It’s Great Being a Dad. These stories may be silly, but students will discover a few thoughts to chew on among all the laughter. Website: YourLibrary.ca/Events.

Dec. 15:

Book Launch: Multicultural Creative Writing Collection 2017: Brighouse Library, 7700 Minoru Gate
12:30 to 2:30 p.m.: Come and meet the authors and editor of this newly published collection of 150 poems, essays, songs and short stories and hear them read their own works in English and other languages.
