Art Exhibit at City Hall by Richmond Society for Community Living

Richmond Society for Community Living celebrates Community Living Month (October) with this exhibit that features works of art produced by individuals at Avenues art program. All of the featured artists are supported through day programs offered by RSCL. This exhibit highlights the artists' creative expression and allows visitors to City Hall Galleria to see beyond disability to ability. Open Conversations: The Art Practice of Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge

Open Conversations explores the concept of dialogical aesthetics through the art practice of Toronto based photographers, Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge. For 35 years, they have defined their art practice around the facilitation of dialogue among diverse communities and/or networks and are exploring the concept of dialogue as a form of socially engaged art practice. This exhibition is guest curated by Scott Marsden and is the first solo exhibition in B.C. for Condé and Beveridge. "Playful Personalities" solo show by Jeanette Jarville at Gateway Theatre Mezzanine Gallery

Contemporary artist Jeanette Jarville's latest figurative paintings will be on display. The style is bold and semi-abstract with graceful curves, simplified details and rich colours. Jeanette has a romantic, dream-like, and contemplative quality to her figurative work granting the viewer creativity in developing their own story. The Richmond Orchestra & Chorus Association presents: Brandon Ridenour

Brandon Ridenour, the trumpeter for the renowned Canadian Brass, is the Orchestra's guest soloist for an afternoon performance of Haydn's Trumpet Concerto. Also on the program will be Haydn's Symphony 103. Tickets are $18 for adults; $15 for seniors/students; $6 for children (6-12); children under age six are free. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by contacting the ROCA office. They are also sold at Long & McQuade, 6760 No. 3 Rd. two weeks prior each concert.

Minoru Chapel Opera presents City Opera Vancouver - Viva Verdi!

Viva Verdi! He wrote some of the most beautiful music in all opera. He used it to tell great stories, from La Traviata to Aida, Otello to Rigoletto, and Falstaff to Il Trovatore. With Glowing Hearts: Marching Down Broadway Presented by The British Columbia Military Music Society, an evening of music and song from Broadway's glory days of the 1950s. Bernsteins's Dances from West Side Story will be the major work on the program and the inspiration for a fabulous show of music old and new. The Band of the Fifteenth Field Regiment is recognized as the finest Concert Band in British Columbia and has performed concerts across Canada, the United States, Germany and Hong Kong. Voices in Peace - Remembrance Day Concert

This is a free concert open to everyone! Instead we ask that you do what you can to live in peace with your families and neighbours, inspiring and actively pursuing peace and justice for the world. "Voices in Peace" is an annual concert that brings together a variety of choirs and performers for a Remembrance Day Concert of which the Richmond Youth Honour Choir is a proud participant! This concert is sponsored by Peace Mennonite Church and Fraserview Church who welcome any artists who would like to add their voice for peace. The focus of this concert is to bring to our remembrance not only the cost of war but what the sounds and images of peace are and can be. The show begins at 6: 30 p.m.

Steveston Folk Guild at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard

We welcome JUST DUETS back for the third time to SFG. They are Andrea Smith and Dave Lidstone in a musical collaboration of wonderful sibling-like vocal harmonies with solid guitar accompaniment. They have been performing in the Vancouver area for a number of years now at local coffee houses and folk clubs, and have released an album, Get On Board. Their repertoire consists of songs of life and love that come from a variety of musical genres and reflect a commitment to social justice, Canadian roots and poetry in song. Here is one review they cherish! "Just Duets is a very special group. They performed for us in a benefit to raise funds for the homeless movement. What a delight they were. They took everyone by surprise. Their wonderful vocal harmonies were breathtaking; their musicianship was outstanding and their selection of materials was thoughtfully put together."
