Richmond Public Library and Literacy Richmond are partnering with Kwantlen Polytechnic University to offer a unique program for parents wanting to gain workplace skills.

The Learning Together program combines family reading readiness with adult workplace literacy into an all in one program. It runs Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Kids Place Program Room at Brighouse branch, beginning on Friday, Nov. 16.

Bring a canned donation to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery now until Dec.

31 and receive two for one admission on a guided tour. Donations go to the Richmond Food Bank.

Natural Capital Exhibit is on now until April 30 at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Emily Carr University in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation and OCAD University present an interactive community mapping and storytelling project. Digitial narratives feature stories from diverse community members, highlighting the importance of our vanishing wetlands.

L'Ecole des Naviga-teurs, Richmond's only public French school, is holding its 6th Annual Gingerbread Man Party on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. at 8580 Kilgour Pl. The event includes decorating gingerbread men, games, a cake walk, talent show, French book fair and a silent auction.

The fee for gingerbread decorating is $5 per child and all proceeds go to the PAC of Ecole des Naviga-teurs. For more information, contact Valerie Allen at valerieallen1@mac.com or 604-417-3570. The OWL Orphaned Wildlife rehabilitation society will be having its first Christmas sale this Saturday, Dec. 8. At great prices will be unique gifts including T-shirts, cards and sponsorships.

Santa will also be there to meet children. Attendees will be able to tour OWL's Front Education and have a photo with a live bird of prey. All proceeds go to the care of the birds of prey at OWL. Santa's Workshop will be open on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9: 30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the South Arm Community Centre, 8880 Williams Rd. Senior Link Yuletide Buffet 2012: Seniors, their friends and family are invited. Come and enjoy our annual most popular event on Satruday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Richmond Alliance Church, 11371 No. 3 Rd. There will be great food, live entertainment, prizes, surprises and even our own Santa.

"Music at the Cannery" features the Honeyflow-ers on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4: 30 p.m. The duet of Betty Berda and Shelley Stevens performs folk and alternative country.

St. Paul Parish is holding its annual Christmas bingo on Thursday, Dec.

13 at 8251 St. Alban's Rd. Doors open at 4: 30 p.m. There'll be exciting games, huge payouts, many prizes and a visit from Santa. Bring friends and family, but must be 19 years or older to play. Tickets are $30 and can be bought at the door or by calling 604-277-3213. Seats are reserved for prepaid ticket holders.

The Richmond Yacht Club presents the annual Parade of Lights on Satruday, Dec. 15 and Sunday Dec. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. Decorated vessels will parade between the Middle Arm Bridge and Dinsmore Bridge, but best viewing is from the Richmond Yacht Club at 7471 River Rd.

Refreshments will be served with traditional holiday music and a visit from Santa and Mrs.

The Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market takes place inside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.
