Summer reading club has kicked off at Richmond Public Library.

Richmond Public Library is kicking off summer vacation with its annual reading club.

The public can now register for RPL's summer reading club, presented in partnership with the BC Library Association, to help children maintain and improve their reading skills.

This year's theme is "journey through time" and celebrates time travel and adventure.

“The library is committed to fostering a literate community, and Summer Reading Club is a great way for people of all ages to build their own lifelong love of reading,” said Caty Liu, Richmond Public Library board chair.

“With so many activities, contests and programs to choose from, there’s never been a better time to celebrate reading with Richmond Public Library.”

Free reading booklets to track reading progress can be picked up at any library location or online by clicking here.

A teen-specific reading club for those ages 12 to 18 is also available where a reading bingo card, challenges and activities are hosted throughout the summer months. Teens can complete activities for a chance to win prizes including gift certificates and sports passes.

Meanwhile, the Richmond Read Summer Reading Club for all readings is returning for its second year. From now until Aug. 31, the club invites the public to read and talk about Chinese-Canadian author and actor Simu Liu's We Were Dreamers.

There will be a discussion group on Facebook and in-person book club chats.
