Acclaimed author reads at Brighouse

Richmond author Robert N.

Richmond author Robert N. Friedland will weave an intricate tale about tension between Chinese tradition and modern life in The Second Wedding of Doctor Geneva Song, and he will read an excerpt at the Authors in our Midst series, hosted by the Richmond Public Library.

The next installation of the new series takes place on Friday, March 8 at the Brighouse branch from 2 to 3 p.m. where the widely published writer will be present along with a friend, Willa Chen from Beijing, who will read a short excerpt in Mandarin.

The novel, filled with lust, adultery, murder and forgiveness, chronicles a tumultuous 20-year love affair.

Friedland, a practicing lawyer, admitted parts of the novel were loosely based on his own experiences when talking to the News after it was first published at the end of 2011.

Its a great way to express situations in your life, whether frightening or troubling, that you might otherwise not talk about, he had told the News.

Authors in our Midst celebrates local authors and their works, and held its first event at the end of January. The program is free and drop-in.
