What did you think of the film Crazy Rich Asians? Does it reinforce stereotypes of Asians?

This movie was really phenomenal. Yes, in many ways it does perpetuate a stereotype of rich Asians, but in order for Asians to be able to hit Hollywood — something that’s so big — we need to perpetuate a stereotype for people to actually watch a movie, to be actually further understood.

I thought it was really good because I’m from the South Asian community, we found familiarity on the parents and how they act. It does reinforce the stereotypes, but it also gives perspectives to those crazy rich Asians that do live here. It opens up your head to the Asian community here.

I loved it. It’s a wonderful love story. I think in some ways it’s poking fun at the whole idea of rich Asians. It’s a good thing, making it lighter. I mean there are lots of rich people in the world, not just Asians.

I thought it was really well-made. It really does show values that a lot of Asian families do have to this day. I don’t think it has anything to do with showing how we are rich. It shows how the new culture clashes with the old culture, and they portrayed it very well.

I really liked it because it was the first movie I can relate to with the characters. Even though there is a stereotype people think rich Asians are doing something to their economy, stealing their jobs, or stealing their houses, I feel like it’s really important for us to be represented in the media.
