Parent Information Session: Preparing to Graduate at Richmond Public Library (Brighouse Branch)

What is required to graduate and how can you start making plans for post-secondary life? Learn about resources available for education and career planning during the final years of secondary school. For parents of students in grades 10-12. Presented by Mark Pattern, a counselor at McMath Secondary. This event is for Youth (Ages 13-18) & Adult (Ages 18+)

Second annual Richmond Amateur Radio Club Event at South Arm United Church

This second annual event will bring together amateur radio enthusiasts and emergency communications displays from across the Lower Mainland to promote emergency preparedness in the community. Additional information about the event can be found at www.richmondarc.ca.

Chess tournament with Kiwanis Club of Richmond and Inspire2Chess

Kiwanis Club of Richmond and Inspire2Chess are putting on a free chess tournament for school-aged children at the City Centre Community Association (5900 Minoru Blvd). At least 72 children from kindergarten to grade 12 will compete in various age division. Awards will be given out around 3 p.m.

Walk Richmond

Explore the East Richmond neighbourhood of Hamilton on this walk that winds through Hamilton Community Park and loops McLean Park and the surrounding community. Meeting spot: Hamilton Community Centre, 5140 Smith Street (playground on the east side of the parking lot).

Free tax clinic at Richmond Public Library (Brighouse Branch)

With the tax season officially open, the Richmond Public Library and Family Christian Fellowship are offering free income tax clinics for low income families. To qualify for this free service, individuals must have a maximum income of $30,000 and a couple must have a maximum income of $40,000 plus $2,500 per child. Sessions are 45 minutes per person and couples must sign up for one time slot each. To register, call 604-231-6413 or visit the Brighouse Branch.

Cannery Farmers’ Market at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery

Continuing the tradition of the Steveston winter farmers’ market as a local attraction and a gathering place for our neighbouring community, the Cannery Farmers’ Market provides an opportunity for local food producers and artisans to showcase their products, which follow the “Make it, Bake it, Grow it, Catch it” philosophy. Only approved products that are made, baked, grown, raised, caught or harvested by B.C. vendors can be sold.

Cherry Blossom Festival at Garry Point Park

Celebrate the end of winter and attend the Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival and enjoy a day of traditional Japanese music, dance performances, delicious food options and fun Japanese themed activities.  

This Japanese tradition of honoring the first signs of spring is being observed in the glory of the 255 Akebono cherry trees at Garry Point Park.

Branscombe House archival photo shadowbox workshop

Join us at Branscombe House (4900 Steveston Highway) for an afternoon making three dimensional collages inspired by local history. Photos from the Richmond Archives will be used as art materials, along with other objects and ephemera, to make beautiful and thought provoking shadowboxes, each containing its own story and link to the past. Open to all ages and experience levels. Workshop participants who would like to have their artwork exhibited in a collaborative neighborhood installation at Doors Open Richmond will be invited to temporarily leave their creations behind (to be picked up at a later workshop).
