Home and Native Bloom Plant Sale: Friday July 7 from 5-8:30 p.m. and Saturday July 8 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

Get your own piece of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebration at a giant plant sale to wrap up Our Home and Native Bloom where more than 4,500 native plants will be on sale for as little as $1.50.

The plant sale takes place on Friday, July 7 from 5-8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, July 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Richmond City Hall. The sale will be accompanied by free musical performances by singers Em Chambers (5 p.m. Friday) and Bre McDaniel (10 a.m. Saturday).

Native plants for sale will include Achillea millefolium (Yarrow), Gaultheria shallon (Salal), Rosa nutkana (Nootka rose), Armeria maritima (Sea Thrift), Allium cernuum (Nodding onion), Iris setosa (Beachhead Iris), Erigeron speciosus (Aspen fleabane), Rubus parviflorus (Thimbleberry), Vaccinium ovatum (Evergreen Huckleberry), Rosa woodsii (Woods Rose), Cornus sericea (Red Osier Dogwood), Polystichum munitum (Sword Fern), Dryopteris expansa (Spreading Wood Fern), and Dryopteris filixmas (Male Fern). Music at the Cannery Friday at 6:30 p.m. features Cannery Row, comprised of local musicians Gary Comeau, Tim Hearsey, and Chris Nordquist, purveyors all of fine roots music.

Admission by donation.

Music at the Cannery is an outdoor event; please bring appropriate clothing for cooler evening temperatures. The concert will be held indoors if it rains.

Music at the Cannery is produced in collaboration with the Beat Merchant Record Store in Steveston.

Kids swim and skate all summer for $19:

For a one-time cost of $19, the City of Richmond’s popular summer pass offers unlimited swimming and skating at four local pools and the Richmond Ice Centre for kids 5-16 years old. Youth 13 to 16 years old can also access the fitness centre at Watermania.

Pass holders can attend any swimming or public skating session at Minoru Aquatic Centre, Watermania, South Arm Outdoor Pool, Steveston Outdoor Pool and the Richmond Ice Centre.  Ice skate rentals are extra.
