Three things to do in Richmond this Thanksgiving Day weekend

1. Pumpkin patch: Saturday, Oct. 8:

Looking for that perfect pumpkin? Visit Richmond Country Farms (12900 Steveston Hwy.) from Oct. 8 onwards to find one that may suit the bill. Your visit to the farm includes live music, a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, a visit with farm animals, a corn maze (weather permitting) and a delicious Spartan apple to eat. Food vendors are available on weekends. Price: $9 (weekdays, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.), $12 (weekends and holidays, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).

2. London Farm tea: Saturday Oct. 8:

Take some time out during the Thanksgiving Day weekend and enjoy a sip of tea at London Heritage Farm (6511 Dyke Road) on Oct. 8 and 9 from 12 – 5 p.m. The country-style tea room tables are set with tablecloths, fine bone china teacups, teapots, dessert plates, silverware and tea is served using serves London Farm’s own blend of “London Lady” tea, along with homemade scones, jam, butter and other baked items. Price: $12.50 per person.

3. Cranberry recipes: Saturday, Oct. 8:

Adults aged 19 and older can learn to cook or bake with fresh local cranberries in a short one-day class at the Richmond Nature Park (11851 Westminster Highway) on Oct. 8. Learn about cranberries’ numerous health benefits from registered dietician Jessica Wang and take advantage of the benefits with healthy, delicious recipes. Also included is a nature walk to search for and learn about bog cranberries. All supplies are provided.  Cooking with Cranberries runs from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Baking with Cranberries goes from 1:30 – 4 p.m. Register on-line at Richmond.ca/register, or call the Nature House at 604-718-6188.
