Steveston Salmon Festival urgently seeking volunteers

Every year, the Steveston Salmon Festival is a highlight of Richmond’s summer. But with the celebration just over three weeks away, festival organizers urgently need to fill 100 volunteer spots.

Every year, the Steveston Salmon Festival is a highlight of Richmond’s summer. But with the celebration just over three weeks away, festival organizers urgently need to fill 100 volunteer spots.

There are a number of opportunities, including some prior to July 1, with a variety of shift times available.

“We are making some exciting changes to this year’s festival and we are eager to work with our volunteer team to make the 2018 Steveston Salmon Festival the best one yet! I would like to give a huge thank you to all our past and future volunteers. The Steveston Salmon Festival would not be possible without your help!” said Josiane Leguerrier, volunteer coordinator in an emailed statement.

Volunteer areas include:

  • Parade marshaling
  • Parade banner carrier
  • Children’s bike parade marshal
  • Several volunteer positions with the children’s festival
  • Environmental crew
  • Grounds set-up/take-down crew
  • Hospitality
  • Assistant stage managers for the main stage and children’s stage
  • Mascot chaperone for Sammy the Salmon
  • Social media gurus
  • Parking lot attendants
  • Traffic safety monitors
  • Supply coordinators

Volunteers will receive a Salmon Festival t-shirt, lanyard and nylon string backpack. There will be a relaxing volunteer lounge supplied with a variety of food and beverages to keep you hydrated and energized for the day. Volunteers can also enter a free draw to win prizes.
