The Steveston Farmers’ and Artisans Market opens this Sunday at the parking lot of the Steveston Community Centre.

About 60 vendors selling fresh produce, artisan crafts and homemade foods, among other things, will be on hand, rain or shine.

This year’s market theme is “Make it. Bake it. Catch it. Grow it.”

Organizers state that included amongst the vendors are local craft breweries and wineries. Activities for kids are also promised to be on tap.

“It’s one-stop shopping where people can come and be entertained and get their food and gifts and even enjoy an adult beverage,” noted Johanna Stewart, the market’s committee chair.

Stewart said this is the market’s ninth season, adding this will be the first season away from the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, where it had normally taken place. While the new venue (east parking lot) is smaller it gives organizers better control of the site, according to Stewart, in her explanation as to why the market moved.

A ribbon cutting will open the market on May 8 at 10 a.m. There will be a market on two Sundays each month. Schedules and updates can be found online at SFAM.ca
