Steveston block party to return this summer

Family-friendly event for all ages.

Live music, sports teams and community organizations are some of what people can expect at this year’s Steveston Block Party.

Steveston Sound and Stage is hosting its second annual block party from 12 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Lord Byng elementary.

There will be live bands playing on a stage as well as an on-site caricature artist.

Alex Sagert with Steveston Sound and Stage said the block party is for families to meet and have fun at the same time.

“I remember Steveston when I grew up was more close-knit, so now we’ve got a lot of new residents that have moved in over the years, it’s a great way to get everyone out to meet,” said Sagert.

“We’re recommending everybody to come out with a blanket, maybe bring a picnic with the family to come out and enjoy the music and some food.”

The first Steveston Block Party was held in 2022 to unite the community while certain pandemic restrictions were still in place.

Sagert told the Richmond News that about 300 people, old and young, came out last year.

“We had seniors, young children and families come out and meet new neighbours and see familiar faces again. They were just so happy and I can’t wait to see everyone again this year.”
