Seafair sweeps Garry Point Park clean with 100th bag

Minor hockey players, armed with garbage bags, stormed the beaches in Steveston for their annual clean-up

Early-season workouts took the form of trash collection for young Seafair Minor Hockey Association players, as they took to Garry Point Park for their 7th annual Sweep the Streets event, last Sunday.

About 150 players, parents, coaches and friends of Seafair collected 13 large garbage bags of trash and debris in the park, and its surroundings, bringing their running total to more than 100 bags, over the seven years.

“It was a nice way for our Seafair parents and players to give back to such an amazing community such as Steveston,” said association vice-president Cody Kusch.

The group celebrated their hard work with a pizza lunch.

The 75-acre park is situated at the mouth of the ecologically-sensitive Fraser River.
