More than $9,000 was raised for KidSport by the group of women who organized the second annual Power of the Purse event.
The ticketed event at Richmond Curling Club attracted about 130 ladies who scooped up deals on second-hand purses, wallets and evening bags selling for $5, $10 and $20.
There was also jewellery and scarves going for similar amounts, with guests receiving door prizes and taking part in live and silent auctions.
Event organizers attended Friday’s KidSport gala at Richmond’s Hilton hotel to present a cheque for $9,040.63.
“We couldn't have put the event on without our many wonderful volunteers and all the very generous donors,” said one of the organizers, Kathy Ganeff.
All monies raised go directly to Richmond KidSport to pay the fees to encourage girls to participate in sports.
