The BCSPCA Richmond branch has four new kittens ready for adoption.

Named after the Guardians of the Galaxy movie characters - Groot, Mantis, Nebula and Gamora - are two black and two tuxedo kittens, who are only 10 weeks old.

They were transferred to Richmond from the BCSPCA East Kootenay branch two weeks ago and have recently been in the care of a foster family.

The kittens are spayed and neutered (wearing cones) and ready to go to their forever homes.

“Typically, kittens will get adopted within a day or two,” said Krista Shaw, branch manager of the Richmond BCSPCA.

When asked if black cats have a harder time finding homes due to superstitions, Shaw says that “if there are other kittens that are different coloured, the black one will usually get picked last.”

There is also an older black cat at the shelter who is available for adoption.

Lakay is a nine-year-old, short-haired male, who was brought back the SPCA by his previous owners who, unfortunately, could not bring him along to their new home.

“People always prefer to adopt kittens over older cats,” said Shaw.

“But it’s actually easier to match the personality of an older cat with that of the adopter, whereas it’s harder to tell what a kitten will be like when it matures.”

Visit the BCSPCA at 7791 Steveston Highway from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. to see these bundles of joy.

Make sure to call 604-277-3100 beforehand in case the kittens have already found homes.
