Record generosity at Richmond Hospital Foundation’s annual golf tournament netted more than $180,000 in fundraising in support of improved local health care in Richmond.

“People rely on Richmond Hospital for life-saving care around the clock every day of the week, and having the most up to date equipment when seconds count is vital,” said Natalie Meixner, president and CEO, Richmond Hospital Foundation.

“We are truly grateful to our many special donors and sponsors whose exemplary leadership and contributions ensure our doctors and nurses are well equipped to provide the very best care, right here in Richmond.”

This year’s golf tournament focused on raising funds to help purchase two vital pieces of medical equipment for the Richmond Hospital Emergency Department.

The family of Paul and Ruby Arora, owners of Gagan Foods, generously donated $35,000 to help fund a brand new cardiac and CO2 monitor in appreciation for the life-saving care Paul Arora received at Richmond Hospital last year.

The monitor tracks a patient’s heart rhythm, blood pressure, levels of carbon dioxide and other vital signs to provide medical professionals with a faster, more accurate and more comprehensive picture of a patient’s condition.

The Arora’s leadership and touching personal testimonial served as powerful inspiration to raise further donations from the audience to purchase a $63,000 critical care ventilator, which will help patients breathe when they are unable to do so.

Doctors and nurses from the emergency department volunteered their time at the event to be on course to personally meet donors and sponsors to explain the benefits the medical technology will provide.

“This urgently needed equipment will greatly improve efficiency in our emergency department and improve our ability to provide safe and timely care to our patients,” said Dr. Richard Chan, head of the emergency department at Richmond Hospital.

Richmond Hospital Foundation’s golf tournament is a signature fundraising event with Aspac Developments Ltd. as its presenting sponsor.

For more than 25 years, Richmond Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to help purchase vital medical equipment, improve patient care programs and upgrade facilities at Richmond Hospital.
