Photos: Richmond residents grieve Lapu Lapu festival victims

A memorial site is set up in Minoru Park near the cultural centre.

"In my heart forever - Chanel."

This is one of dozens of messages left on a memorial board at Minoru Park this weekend during a candlelight vigil for the victims of the Lapu Lapu Day festival.

After the vigil, a memorial with flowers, messages of condolences, stuffies and Philippine flags was moved near the statue of Minoru the horse, just off Minoru Boulevard.

The flower display will be at the park for a few days to allow Richmond residents a place to grieve and pay respects to the victims of the tragedy.

The vigil was held at the park on Sunday afternoon to remember the victims of the Vancouver tragedy, where 11 people were killed and more than two dozen injured after a man allegedly drove an SUV through a crowd of attendees.

The memorial will eventually be brought indoors to the Cultural Centre.

The Sunday afternoon vigil was organized by PhilCAN, a Filipino arts and cultural society, and they would like to create an indoor memorial at the cultural centre for Philippine Heritage Month in June.
