Another excellent event for Richmondites and visitors was organized by the London Heritage Farm Society on this past Sunday.
The annual Family Farm Day was attended by hundreds of people of all ages.
They enjoyed activities that included live music, kids’ entertainment, arts and crafts, pony rides, facepainting and a lot more.
The setting was the historic and idyllic London Farm, which was originally developed as a farm in 1888.
This year was a great combination of live music performances by Murphy and The Cats and children’s entertainment by Stories on Wheels.
Then there were the very popular children’s encounters with animals — with pony rides for younger children — always a must-have experience.
Another hallmark event for kids of all ages was a “Rabbits Meet n’ Treat” hosted by Rabbitats. More information on this organization can be found at their website.
This was a great opportunity to get up close and personal with rabbits who have been rescued by the excellent Rabbitats Rescue Society, whose mission is to “to safely house the large number of unwanted, abandoned & feral rabbits in a sustainable & affordable way.”
There was also a rare chance to observe a raptor on display with its handlers, courtesy of OWL.
As its website explains, “OWL is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of raptors (eagles, falcons, hawks, osprey, owls, and vultures).”
Many more activities — including building projects from The Home Depot, Lego building with the Vancouver Lego Club, balloon twisting, and facepainting — made for a full day of fun for families.
Throughout the site, a great team of volunteers helped everything flow smoothly.
The City of Richmond operates London Farm in partnership with the London Heritage Farm Society.
That partnership — and a lot of hard work by more volunteers — has resulted in an organization that offers site rentals, the gift shop, tea service at the farmhouse, and the community gardens.
