A Richmond elementary school class is one of six winners in this year's global flower planting competition.

A class of students between the ages of six and eight from Homma elementary received the Golden Flower Bulb Award as part of the Bulbs4Kids project.

Bulb4Kids is a program for students to become familiar with flower bulbs and the world of nature in a fun way.

This year, more than 2,000 classes took part in the competition, with five other winning classes from the Netherlands, Germany, England, France and Sweden.

Classrooms with the most beautiful flower bulb gardens receive prizes, including a class certificate, personal certificates for the students and a special gift for each student as a thank you for their entries.

An entry from Homma elementary's participating class stated that to make the class experience more interactive, photos of what the flowers look like are printed when the bulbs are planted, and students match the photos to the flowers when they bloom, according to Bulbs4Kids' website.

"We have received the bulbs 4 kids donation for a few years now and this area of the school garden continues to bloom in a rainbow of colours and spring beauty," reads the website.
