Sunday’s sunshine rewarded the enthusiasm of the participants and volunteers for the Richmond Walk for Alzheimer’s over the weekend.
The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's, presented by Go Auto, took place across British Columbia on Sunday, May 25.
The location in Richmond this year was Hugh McRoberts Secondary School and South Arm Park. A great team of volunteers made the event run smoothly.
The three-kilometre walk is the largest annual fundraising event for the Alzheimer Society of B.C. It encourages participants in BC communities to walk in support of those people afflicted by this debilitating disease.
Richmond is one of nineteen municipalities participating across BC.
Funds raised at the walk help support programs and services for families of those with dementia, facilitating the assistance they may need to maintain the best possible quality of life as the disease takes its toll.
Importantly, the money raised will fund critical research to understand and mitigate or eliminate the disease. We currently don’t know why some people develop Alzheimer’s, and the cure is also unknown.
Over 85,000 British Columbians are living with dementia. And the impact of the dementia also extends to the families of those afflicted.
The walk provides a way of honouring and remembering the people in our lives who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.
IG Wealth Management returned this year as the title sponsor for the 2025 Alzheimer's Walk.
The corporation has a long heritage of community involvement, corporate funding and project initiation that has created a strong corporate culture of caring. In 2022, IG Wealth Management gave more than $7.1 million in charitable donations across Canada.
