After beginning his teaching career at McNair secondary in 1982, Ron Rutley is retiring with 35 years of musical education under his belt.
Currently, the director of music at Lord Tweedsmuir secondary, Rutley has also taught at the now razed C.E. London secondary for 12 years, as well as other schools around the Lower Mainland.
“Highlights of my career would be all the wonderful performance tours with students over the years in Hawaii, Disneyland and a cruise ship on Mother’s Day,” recalled Rutley.
A farewell concert will be held at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey this Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m.
The concert will feature performances from Lord Tweedsmuir’s music groups as well as music student alumni. Rutley will also be putting on a solo performance.
The concert admission will be by donation and Rutley invites all concert goers to join him and his students for coffee and cake afterwards.
