Local teens crowned Sunshine

Two Richmond youth, Adriel Tam (age 22) and Jessica Han (age 18), were crowned Boy Champion and Girl Champion at Fairchild Radio's annual pageant/talent search for Chinese-speaking teens, Sunshine Nation 2013.

Two Richmond youth, Adriel Tam (age 22) and Jessica Han (age 18), were crowned Boy Champion and Girl Champion at Fairchild Radio's annual pageant/talent search for Chinese-speaking teens, Sunshine Nation 2013.

Also taking home the awards were Eva Shen (age 17), winner of the Best Talent Award and Jeffrey Leung (age 18), winner of the People's Choice online voting.

The event took place at Michael J. Fox Theatre on August 23 and was the grand finale of a campaign that started in June. Eight finalists (four boys and four girls) had beaten

hundreds of applicants to receive intense training in acting, dancing, cat-walking and public speaking and how to take the spotlight on stage in front of a panel of judges, including casting agent from Taiwan.

Co-organized by Canada's multicultural radio chain Fairchild Radio and Taiwan's Comic Productions/Meteor Garden Production, Sunshine Nation is an annual talent search for Chinese-speaking teens aged between 16 and 25. In the past 15 years, the event has discovered some of the biggest names in the Asian entertainment.
