World Leisure Day
World Leisure Day is being celebrated in Richmond on Saturday, April 16.

The City of Richmond is hosting its first World Leisure Day event this month.

More than 30 free and low-cost activities are scheduled to take place around the city on Saturday, April 16.

Family-friendly activities including scavenger hunts, walking tours, fitness classes and music shows are being offered.

World Leisure Day is a global initiative by the World Leisure Organization (WLO) and aims to highlight the importance of leisure.

Leisure can be in several forms such as recreation, parks, sport, education and arts, culture and heritage and often help with productivity, reducing stress, improving mood and connecting with family and friends, according to the City of Richmond.

In 2017, the City of Richmond was designated as one World Leisure Community of Excellence by the WLO.

Richmond was recognized for its rich arts and cultural opportunities, outdoor green spaces, unique heritage and waterfront roots and volunteerism.
