Market has a new location on the front steps

The Kwantlen St. Farmers Market is back for another season and visitors are in store for some changes that have made the event much more visible to the public.

The market, which runs weekly on Tuesdays, has shifted to a new location. It has shifted from KPU’s back parking lot, which would have hidden the event behind construction of the new, Wilson School of Design, to the front entrance plaza of KPU, right on Lansdowne Road.

According to organizers, visibility to passersby is, as a result, much greater. Plus, the market is now nestled between the tiered garden beds that KPU’s farm school students use to grow their organic market produce which is for sale, making it a unique market experience.

The market’s hours have also changed to 12 – 4 p.m., to fit both the agriculture students’ programming/classroom times. It now allows them to harvest during classroom hours in the morning. The new time also reflects the majority of comments organizers heard last year to have the market run earlier in the day.

The overall goal is also to expand the market this year and encourage more of the local Richmond farming community to attend. There is also free face painting for children at the Kids Booth and free parking right on campus  enter off Lansdowne Road, or Kwantlen Street and follow the signs.

Alongside fresh organic, seasonal produce, Baguette & Co. provides decadent, French baking, and Rockweld Farm joins the vendor lineup with their SPCA-certified chicken and eggs.

This week, market-goers will also find Charisse Collections, BC Buzz Honey, and Hibiscus Foods will be there to introduce their AH-mazing Jamaican Patties.
