Two Richmond business owners launched a matching donation campaign to support the in-patient acute mental health unit at Richmond Hospital.

Patrick Lee, co-owner of King's Auto Group, recently rolled out “double-the-impact” by donating $10,000 for Richmond Hospital Foundation’s mental health campaign.

Lee’s pledge was to match the amount of money the foundation received over the past few months from donors, up to $10,000.

Richmond realtor Garrett Wong also wanted to encourage more people to support the transformation of the in-patient acute mental health unit by launching another matching campaign.  When a donor makes a donation to the hospital foundation, it will be matched dollar to dollar by Wong, for up to $20,000.

Wong, who has observed friends and families struggling with depression, said he feels an urgent need to create an accepting and comforting environment for everyone who suffers from mental health.

“The first step towards healing is an accepting and comforting environment. Richmond Hospital’s in-patient acute mental health unit will be a space that enables open dialogue and understanding,” said Wong.

With Lee and Wong’s help, $40,000 will go toward supporting the foundation’s mental health campaign.
