The third annual Pride Walk in Steveston drew hundreds to Imperial Landing and along the waterfront on Saturday.
It was a family-friendly event and included booths and activities.
There was also a petition asking for a rainbow crosswalk in Steveston, which garnered 150 signatures. It's asking for the crosswalk to be painted at Bayview Street and No. 1 Road.
Joining the crowds were B.C. Premier David Eby and Anne Kang, MLA for Burnaby Centre and Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. Also at the event were local politicians, including Richmond-Steveston MLA Kelly Greene, whose constituency office has organized the event since its inception in 2023, and Richmond city Coun. Bill McNulty.
“As we see 2SLGBTQIA+ rights coming under attack in other jurisdictions, it’s important to make it clear that hate has no place in Richmond,” said Greene in a press release.
“Everyone deserves the freedom to love who they love and be their authentic selves, without fear or discrimination. When we show up and celebrate each other like this, we’re creating a community where everyone truly belongs. I was touched by the visible joy of participants and want to thank everyone who had a part in making the Richmond Pride Walk special.”
Greene's office said more than 500 people attended the Pride Walk this year, up from 200 in its inaugural year in 2023.
