The City of Richmond is calling on the public to have its say on the latest vision for the future of Steveston.

The city is currently undertaking its initial consultation on preferred options for updated design and heritage policies in the Steveston Area Plan, as well as options for streetscape concepts for Bayview, Chatham and Moncton Streets.

Two upcoming open houses will offer information boards on the options and the opportunity to complete a public survey on site or on the city’s website – LetsTalkRichmond.ca – and to speak with city staff from community planning and transportation.

The open houses take place:

• Thursday, July 20 from 6-9 p.m. at the Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton Street);

• Saturday, July 22 from 1-6 p.m. at Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton Street).

In addition, the public can visit to find up-to-date information on the project, explore the open house boards and complete an online survey available from Friday, July 14 through to Sunday, July 30 at 11:59 p.m.

According to the city, since the updates to the Steveston Area Plan in 2009, there have been some recent concerns in the community about whether new development fits with the character of Steveston Village.

On June 6, city council endorsed the launch of public engagement on options for updating design and heritage policies and options for streetscape concepts for Bayview, Chatham and Moncton Streets.

Next steps include staff reporting the findings back to council in October.
