It’s almost time for Youth Week across B.C. and Richmond has several activities planned to celebrate the accomplishments and diversity of youth across in the city.

From May 1-7, the City of Richmond and its community partners will host free or low-cost events for youth including a colour war, job fair and app hackathon.

On Wednesday, May 3, the city will host its 20th annual U-ROC Youth Awards ceremony at Gateway Theatre to celebrate the achievements and dedication of some of its youth.

While nominations are now closed, the city previously asked professionals and community members working with youth to nominate them for an award in one of the following categories: outstanding youth, asset champions and youth group.

Youth Week began in 1995 and runs across the province with various municipalities hosting events to empower and celebrate youth.

“Richmond’s youth are an integral part of our community as they create a more engaged and livable city,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie in a press release. “We are once again proud to offer Youth Week events that celebrate youth, while providing positive peer connections, fun and meaningful experiences and venues to showcase individual creativity.”
