A very special event took place on Sunday, May 4 in Richmond.
The Ling Yen Mountain Temple’s 2025 Buddha’s Birthday Celebration attracted huge appreciative crowds to the beautiful site.
The event was themed as “The Mind of Buddha and the Mind of a Compassionate Mother.” This year’s activities included a Bathing the Buddha Ceremony, a Charity Bazaar and a Youth Sketching Contest, along with other meaningful activities.
The Temple celebrated the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha and looked forward to Mother’s Day in May.
More than 2,500 years ago in India, Prince Siddhartha — the future Buddha — was born to Queen Maya.
The birthday events offered attendees the opportunity to bathe the Buddha, which incorporated gratitude and prayer for the well-being of mothers everywhere.
Large numbers of friendly and helpful volunteers made it easy to navigate the large site and find all of the well-planned activities.
Visitors then had the choice of sampling vegetarian food booths, fresh fruit, a variety of cultural activities and engaging with the community. And a colourful playground for children!
As well, visitors could strike the Bell of Loving-Kindness, with the proceeds donated to local women's charities.
Generous donations were made by the Temple to several worthy organizations, including the Richmond Hospital Foundation.
The Temple site was decorated with the winning entries from the sketching contest for children that was held on April 13 and focused on The Beauty of Ling Yen Temple.
For more information about the Temple, you may visit the official website or contact the temple at 604-271-0009.
