The annual Street Banner Contest is officially open and is now accepting entries that celebrate the City of Richmond’s theme for Canada’s 150th birthday:
“One nation, hundreds of cultures, thousands of communities, millions of people and limitless stories. Inspiring Richmond to welcome our future.”
Community members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to share their images that reflect this theme through depictions of the great places, experiences and people that make Richmond unique.
Contestants are encouraged to use a broad range of artistic mediums; collage, painting, illustration, printmaking, digital art and photography will all be accepted. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m.
Up to 10 winning designs will be selected this fall. These designs will be produced into 1,000 street banners to be installed throughout Richmond’s downtown core, on walking paths and on main gateways into and out of the city. The banners will be displayed from March 2017 to February 2018.
All contest entries will be posted on the City of Richmond’s Facebook page for public voting and the community will be invited to ‘like’ their favourite designs. The top two designs with the most ‘likes’ will be considered in the judging process by a panel of community volunteer judges.
Winning designs will be revealed at a special unveiling ceremony in Council Chambers in March 2017. Contest winners will be awarded a $300 honorarium along with a full-sized banner featuring their winning submission. For contest rules and guidelines, visit online at Richmond.ca/Banners.
