Former Richmond resident Dave Clou posted the most liked memory in 2016, to date, on the popular Facebook page ‘You grew up in Richmond, BC if you remember…’
Clou, now residing in Tsawwassen, posted a photo of the first McDonald’s restaurant in Canada, located just south of Granville Avenue on No. 3 Road, adjacent to Bennett Road. While a new McDonald’s building has since been built in its place, the archived photo shows the smaller, original 1967 building with two classic golden arches.
In just three days, more than 600 people had liked the photo, garnering more than 150 comments.
Peter Gray posted a photo believed to be the first menu. Many people reminisced about the low prices, such as 19 cents for a “tempting cheeseburger” and 10 cents for a “delightful root beer.”
Notably, a new building to replace the second building is in the development stage.
