Best of Richmond 2016: Best off-leash dog park

I guess this depends on who you rate higher, yourself of your dog? If it’s the former, then you can’t do much worse than the off-leash park at the foot of No. 3 Road on the south arm dyke.

I guess this depends on who you rate higher, yourself of your dog?

If it’s the former, then you can’t do much worse than the off-leash park at the foot of No. 3 Road on the south arm dyke.

It’s breezy, beautiful, fresh air, a flowing river and relatively clean under foot as well — unlike some of those mud-laden cages masquerading as dog parks in other parts of the city.

Your pooch may not be as high on life though at this hairy hangout, as the space to get a good gallop going is relatively restricted and the park is shared with cyclists and other non-dog folks, which is a bit of a nuisance if your mutt has a grudge against the pedal-pushers.

If they could talk, your pet would point you in the direction of the McDonald Beach off-leash haven on the opposite arm of the Fraser River, near YVR. Most dogs love the water and there’s a nice strip of wet sand to whip up and down on, without cyclists and their ankles.
