The best local road (non-arterial) for 2016 in Richmond is the looping Azure Road, which is bound by the four arterial roads of No. 2 Road, Gilbert Road, Westminster Highway and Granville Avenue with direct connections to all of them.
Mostly known to savvy Richmondites as, “that road you can park on for free if you’re visiting the hospital,” Azure also offers access to Samuel Brighouse elementary.
Azure is a parent road to a whopping 14 sub-local roads: Seven crescents (Nadine, Madrona, Drewry, Kalamalka, Camsell, Mara, Skaha), two places (Tranquille and Otter), two gates (Nanika and Azure), one boulevard (Azure), one court (Alta), and one road (Christina). Note that these connections are named after popular lakes in B.C.’s Interior, conjuring up images of bliss and serenity as you wind your way around the loop.
Azure encompasses the Richmond Gardens development of the 1960s, thus providing a glimpse of the then booming past of Richmond as single-family neighbourhoods paved over farmland. The neighbourhood is now home to many mature trees and represents the western frontline of encroaching 15-storey condominium and hotel towers.
