Depending on where you work in Richmond, there are a few options here to get out of the office, stretch your legs and remind yourself the world extends beyond the cubicle and your computer.
Let’s assume you work in or near City Centre. If that’s the case, Minoru Park, adjacent to Richmond Hospital, is around five or 10 minutes’ walk from the madness that is No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway.
When you get there, you can continue walking the various looping paths, breathe in the trees and flowers, stroll around the pond, talk to the ducks and geese and either park yourself on a bench to eat your sandwich or keep on going until it’s time to head back to the grind.
It’s amazing how therapeutic being immersed in nature for 10 or 15 minutes can be. If you’re closer to the middle arm dyke of the Fraser River, then just head there.
A power-walk along the dyke — from the UBC Boathouse past the Oval — is a fantastic way to reset and recharge. And with the flowing river, the North Shore Mountains and the float planes taking off and landing, there’s no shortage of picturesque sights to see.
