Described recently by the South China Morning Post, and subsequently the BBC, as a “freakshow,” Vancouver’s real estate market has lost touch with local incomes and reality.
Richmond is not spared this circus act and there’s no better example of this than the Brighouse-Blundell neighbourhood southwest of Minoru Park. Mansions, or mega homes, such as those along Chatterton and Mang roads, that are anywhere from 10-25 years-old, are being demolished in place of newer homes with three-car garages and few replacement trees.
The homes are being sold for upwards of $5 million and many appear unkept, with garbage and overgrown grass along the front.
