Leah Thom, aka Richmond’s “Queen of Nostalgia,” is the founder of Richmond’s most popular social media page, ‘You grew up in Richmond, BC if you remember…’ Having grown up in Richmond, Thom can still be found in and around her Seafair neighbourhood and moderating her Facebook page. She works in the film industry, which is why all the filming buzz in Steveston excites her. She is hoping the page continues to act as a bridge between the good things of yesteryear and what may be coming around the corner in the future.
Best public landmark:
Larry Berg Flight Path Park and being able to “sit on top of the world.”
Best place to take an out-of-town guest:
Steveston is always a safe bet for tourists and is a great place for a walkabout.
Best neighbourhood:
I got to hand it to Burkeville. There’s just something about that place that “gets it.”
Best way to spend a Saturday afternoon:
A round of pitch ‘n’ putt behind Hugh Boyd.
Best way to spend a Saturday night:
I love a good BBQ cookout party with friends and family
Best place to get fresh produce:
Sunshine Farms at No. 1 and Blundell roads; they always have fresh and local options.
Best place to have a picnic:
Iona Beach has wonderful green spaces to eat, play and has beautiful views to take in.
Best walking/running/biking route:
West Dyke Trail from Garry Point to Terra Nova. I go there to “reset” myself.
Best restaurant:
I’ve always enjoyed the Flying Beaver. They’ve been pretty consistent over the years.
Best coffee shop:
Viva Java on Smith Road by Costco; it’s a one-man show with custom, organic roasts.
